Podcast – Why it’s time men talked about their feelings

In an episode of his podcast, Byron Cooke and his guests open up about asking for help, mental wellbeing and why there’s no time like the present for Australian men to reach out.

Whether it’s facing a health crisis like childhood cancer, living through a global pandemic, or simply being a man in his 40s, tackling the stereotype of the stoic male for the sake of men’s mental health is top of the agenda.

In an episode of his podcast, Byron Cooke and his guests open up about why for the sake of their mental wellbeing, the greatest show of strength can be to ask for help and that there’s no time like the present for Australian men to reach out for help.

Redkite is breaking down the barriers between men and support through Dads Connect, an informal online space for men dealing with the impacts of their child’s cancer. It’s a space where men can express their emotions without fear, shame or reprisal.

Take a listen as Byron Cooke talks in depth with:

  • Jonny, a Redkite senior social worker who facilitates the Dads Connect group.
  • Peter Morris whose three-year-old son Benjamin was diagnosed with cancer in 2018.
  • Josh Kennedy, co-captain of the Sydney Swans who have supported Redkite for 20 years.

Listen to Bryon’s podcast Man Up & Speak Out below.

You can help support families facing childhood cancer by purchasing a limited edition Redkite watch designed by Byron Cooke in collaboration with Uncle Jack Watches. $100 from the sale of each watch will be donated to support kids with cancer and their families.
