Redkite Family Wellbeing Program Evaluation
Redkite has been offering support to families at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead through the Family Wellbeing Program since mid-2015.
The purpose of the Family Wellbeing Program is to improve the wellbeing of oncology families during their hospital stay by providing practical and emotional support, activities and parental self-care services. It does this through:
- A Family Support Coordinator on the oncology ward at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead to provide families with information and practical and emotional support.
- Distribution of the Redkite Red Bags to newly diagnosed families.
- The Story Beads program, where children are given a bead to add to their personalised bead string. Each one is an important milestone in their experience with cancer and treatment.
Program evaluation
We commenced an evaluation of this program in 2016 to better understand the difference it’s making to oncology families at Children’s Hospital at Westmead and inform how we continue to deliver these services in the future. The evaluation sought to understand the following:
